Robert Miller Creswell

Robert Miller Creswell, of Camden, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at the Camden Nursing Facility, in Camden.
He was born in Worcester, MA on Feb. 24, 1917, the younger son of Lillian M. Ott Creswell and George Washington Creswell.
He was educated in the public schools of Worcester, MA, Worcester Academy and Massachusetts State College in Amherst, (now The University of Massachusetts).
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 11, 1941, serving in the Armored Forces and the U.S. Paratroopers for a total of five years, before and during World War II.
While at Fort Benning, GA., he met Grace Morgan, a teacher in Columbus, GA.
They married in 1954 and had four children.
Following his U.S. Army service, Mr. Creswell remained in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1977.
He was an insurance adjuster for 15 years before moving south.
He became a reservoir ranger at Lake Allatoona, Ga. in 1964 and was promoted to reservoir manager for the Alabama River Lakes when they were activated in 1969, when he and his family moved to Camden.
He retired in 1984 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, remaining in Camden, AL.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Grace, his daughter Barbara Grace, who died in 2002, and his older brother George R. Creswell of Liecester, MA.
He is survived by Philip M. (Sulynn) of Camden, John R. (Jean) of Lamison and Thomas L. (Elizabeth) of Panama City, FL.
He is also survived by two grand-children, Joshua Morgan and Laura Grace of Camden, four step grand-children, Clayton R. Tartt, Montgomery, T. Hester Tartt, Atlanta, Jennifer R. and N. Anne Goggans, Lamison.
Burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery, Camden, with Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Service officiating.
Funeral service was held in Camden Baptist Church at 2 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 29, 2007, with the Rev. Joe Cole officiating, with visitation at the church preceding the funeral service.
