Simmons, Donald J., 76, 1st Sergeant U.S. Army, ret., a resident of Prattville, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 in a Montgomery hospital. He was born April 11, 1931.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Simmons.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.W. Land and Dr. Tom Ward officiating. Burial followed in Bethel West Cemetery with military honors with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: wife, Belle Simmons of Prattville; son, John D. Simmons of Prattville; two daughters, Mary Ann Wingard and Patricia Till, both of Prattville; grandchildren, Stephanie, Meaghan, Malorie, Madison, Steve, John David, Langdon, Donald, J.R., Dayton, Christopher, Ben and Bryant; sisters, Betty Jean Craig of Greenville and Sylvia Owens, Old Texas; brother, Billy Simmons of Greenville and uncle, John D. Sirmon, Evergreen. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Craig, George Reid, Scott Reid, Mike Owens, Mark Owens, Randy Simmons, Ricky Simmons, Gerald Benson, Billy Carl Lancaster and Steve Till. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel West Methodist Church.
