More disappointments for Fort Dale Softball

Fort Dale softball tallied two more losses after Monday’s region double-header against Hooper.
The Eagles stayed close in the first match up, losing only 2-1. The Eagles lost their resolve in game two, however, and fell 7-0.
Coach Scarlett Anderson said, all and all, she was happy with her team’s performance against a historically difficult team.
“We played better against them than we have in a while,” Anderson said. “By the way we managed to stay with them this year, you can we are really improving.”
Anderson believed the outcome of the first game could have been different.
“We had a couple of bad calls against us that would have tied the game or helped us get ahead.”
The first call, Anderson said, happened at second base.
“The base wasn’t stuck in the ground,” Anderson said. “One our girls went sliding into second, and the base went flying across the field.”
Hooper tagged the runner, and the umpire ruled it an out.
Later in the game, the Eagles sent a base runner towards home.
“It was not a forced play,” Anderson said. “Our player touched home plate, but the catcher didn’t tag her.”
Anderson said she fought both calls to no avail. She said these calls had an effect on her team.
“You get a couple of bad calls and it throws you off,” Anderson said. “You can tell them all you want to shake it off, but its still in the back of their mind.”
Fort Dale heads to Macon East tournament this weekend.
