Butler County has 393 recipients of Social Security and Veterans Affairs benefits who may be eligible for an economic stimulus payment, but have yet to file for a check, according to the Internal Revenue Service.
Oct. 15 is the deadline to file for a payment, said IRS spokesperson Dan Boone.
“Don’t miss out on the economic stimulus payment,” said Boone. “If you need help filing for a payment or know someone who does, contact the IRS for assistance.”
Individuals must file a tax return in order to receive an economic stimulus payment.
The IRS has identified more than 86,000 individuals in Alabama who could be eligible for payments of up to $300 ($600 for married couples), including an additional $300 for each child. Those who do not have a tax liability and are not required to file a return must have at least $3,000 in qualifying income.
Qualifying income from Social Security includes retirement, disability and survivor benefits; from Veterans Affairs disability compensation, disability pension and survivor benefits.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is not qualifying income.
Taxpayers may visit IRS.gov or call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to get instructions on how to file for a payment.
By law the IRS cannot disperse any economic stimulus payments after Dec. 31.
