Last year, McKenzie lost a heartbreaker to Providence Christian, but that certainly wasn’t the case this year as the Tigers clobbered the Eagles 36-6.

“It feels really good to get a win,” said head coach Miles Brown. “This is the first win we’ve had on homecoming in six years.”

The Tigers’ first score of the game was a big one on a 92-yard pass from Calvin Henderson to Emmanuel Johnson.

On the next drive, the Tigers used a 43-yard run by Henderson to set up a one-yard rush from Johnson for the touchdown.

Johnson added the extra point, and McKenzie led 14-0.

A five-yard run from Melvin Owens and another conversion from Johnson put McKenzie up 22-0.

On the last play of the first half, Henderson connected with Johnson yet again on a fade in the endzone for a touchdown, and Henderson added the two-point conversion for a commanding 30-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Tigers put it on cruise control, with Freddie Banks scoring from six yards out for the last score of the game for McKenzie.

“We executed well tonight,” Brown said. “Coach Powell had the team believing in the defense, and we also did really well on offense.”

“I’m very proud of the way we executed our plan,” he added.

Now the Tigers must prepare to make the short trip to Georgiana to face the Panthers next Thursday night.

“We’ve got a big game and a short week ahead of us,” Brown said.
