The Greenville boys picked up a big 78-56 win over the visiting Calhoun Tigers in front of a packed house Saturday night.
Calhoun came out firing, but Greenville was able to keep pace and took a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers pulled away in the second quarter with strong play inside, particularly on rebounds and putbacks.
Jarques Burnett also put on a show with several highlight-reel dunks and putbacks.
The Tigers stretched a 13-point halftime lead to nearly 20 points at the end of the third and kept rolling in the final period.
“We played well for having a long break,” said head coach Bryant Marlow. “We didn’t have any Christmas tournaments or anything, so I was worried that we might come out slow or out of shape.”
“Now that the break is over, we’re getting ready to start region play,” he added.
Mikwese Claybourne was the Tigers’ leading scorer with 18 points, but nearly every member of the team contributed.
In B-team action, Greenville won 56-50.
Deeric Powell led the Tigers with 23 points and Chris Walker also added 10.
