Approximately 150 Lions and Lion spouses will be visiting the Camellia City this March for a weekend of fun, fellowship and learning.

The Greenville Lions Club is hosting the District 34-N Lions Convention March 27-28 and plans are well under way to make it a positive experience for all involved.

“This is a chance to show off Greenville and show our visitors just what we have to offer,” said Lion Secretary Ricky Cargile.

A golf outing is planned for Friday afternoon at Cambrian Ridge, with a side event being organized for the ladies. Main Street’s Nancy Idland and Mary Ann Hamilton are helping organize activities to promote Greenville’s businesses and historic sites.

A supper at a local restaurant is set for Friday night, followed by live entertainment at the Ritz Theatre downtown. A District Governor’s Reception is set to close out the evening.

Saturday will kick off at 7 a.m. with registration for a diabetes walk-run fundraiser, which will take place between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. A continental breakfast is planned for 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Mayor Dexter McLendon will be on hand to welcome the Lions to Greenville as the conference gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church.

A catered luncheon will be served at midday at the FLC. Tentative plans are in place for a fashion show for the ladies at the Ritz featuring clothing and accessories from Greenville shops. The convention is slated to wrap up at 4 p.m. The current Lions International president will be the keynote speaker for the event.

“We will have Lions visiting us from as far north as Northport and as far south as Bayou La Batre and we want to show them a wonderful, enjoyable time while they are here in our hometown with us,” said Greenville Lions president Hubert Little.
