In April 2008, Roger Schultz of Enterprise walked away from the finale of NBC’s hit show “Biggest Loser: Couples” a winner, having lost 164 lbs. in five months. The prize money he won as a runner up was nice, but what he really gained back was his health.
“$250,000 prize money isn’t life changing, what is life changing is having my health back,” Schultz says.
Schultz will be the special guest speaker at the Achiever Award banquet on May 6.
Roger was diagnosed with Type II diabetes on his 37th birthday; he had struggled to keep his weight down after his All-American playing day at the University of Alabama.
“I basically kept like I was training to win the National Championship but wasn’t exercising at all to burn the extra calories,” he says. His motto? “Food, fun and football.”
All that has changed. Roger was voted into the finale by winning America’s vote after setting the record for the most weight loss on the “Biggest Loser” campus in the history of the show. He was the only contestant during his season to participate in every challenge.
Since the “Biggest Loser,” Roger has been active in the state in an effort to help fight obesity. He was named the coach for Scale Back Alabama, a statewide initiative to get Alabama citizens healthy. He provided motivation along with a broad knowledge of exercise and nutrient. The results of the 10-week program were amazing, as participants lost a total of nearly 200,000 lbs.
Roger has also started a non-profit organization Pride on 3 Foundation to help fight childhood obesity. He held his first Fun Run Through Science on March 7, 2009 and raised over $7,500.
He has appeared on Oprah and eXtra, as well as being featured in Alabama Golf Digest, People.com, UA Alumni Magazine, inTouch Weekly, Today.com, Birmingham Post Herald, Mobile Press Register, and has co-hosted NBC 13 Daytime Alabama and served as a guest on NBC 12 Today in Alabama, NBC 15 Today, ABC 33/40 Talk of Alabama, CBS 42 Wake Up Alabama, Fox 6 Good Day Alabama and has co-hosted a healthy cooking show.
Roger also fulfilled a life-long dream to be color analyst for his beloved Crimson Tide when he was a guest analyst for the Tulane game.
He still continues to host is nationally syndicated radio show “In the Trenches” during football season. As a full-time motivational speaker, Roger now travels and spreads his “Pride” to sales organizations, businesses and groups across America.
