A Glenwood man has been arrested for the sexual abuse of a juvenile victim and is now in the Crenshaw County jail.

Charles Ralph Spears III, of Glenwood, was arrested on Jan. 13 by the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office after the Crenshaw County Department of Human Resources reported to the deputies that they had been given a letter written by the victim stating that the sexual assault had been going on for the past five years.

Spears, a 27-year-old white male, has also been accused of this same crime in Coffee County, but no charges were filed, according to the Sheriff’s report.

After Spears was read his rights, he gave a statement denying all accusations against him, and he stated that the victim had “no known reason to lie about him.”

The victim stated that the incidents happened in Crenshaw, Coffee, and Pike counties.

Spears is being charged with one count of sexual abuse, first degree, which is a felony.
