Family, friends and citizens of Butler County gathered in the main courtroom of the Butler County Courthouse on Jan. 16 to celebrate with Mattie Gomillion as she took the oath of office given by Judge Cleve Poole to begin her third term as the Circuit Clerk of Butler County.

As Gomillion begins a new term in the office, she expressed relief and also thanked the citizens of Butler County for having confidence in her and her staff.

“I am always here for the people,” Gomillion said. “I am just glad that the voters have had the confidence in me and my office in each election.” Gomillion ran unopposed in the general election in 2024 after facing opposition in 2012 and in 2018. Prior to being elected as Circuit Clerk in 2012, Gomillion worked for two years in the Circuit Clerk’s office in Conecuh County before joining the Butler County Circuit Clerk’s office as a court specialist in 2000.
