Elder Max Julious Tolbert, 82, a resident of McKenzie, passed away on Monday Jan. 20. Max was born on March 8, 1942. He spent many years working for the City of Georgiana before retiring. Max was a loving and devoted Husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was an ordained Primitive Baptist elder since 2000 and a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in McKenzie. Max enjoyed fishing and watching Alabama Crimson Tide Football. He had such a great sense of humor and loved to make everyone laugh… he will be greatly missed.
Max was preceded in death by his parents William Arzo and Katie B. Tolbert of Georgiana, seven brothers: James, Grady, Greely, Leroy, Andrew, Marvin and JD Tolbert as well as one sister Betty Ruth Tolbert Norsworthy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Alene Tolbert of McKenzie; daughters Tracey Swinson (Rick) Irvington and Stephanie Gladden (Charles) Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; sons Steve Tolbert and Matthew Tolbert of McKenzie; grandchildren Katie Stork (Christopher) of Mobile; Gabriel, Colton, Madelyn, Rosemary and Allyson Gladden of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; great-grandchild Adalynn Claire Stork of Mobile; brother-In-laws Norman Brooks (Diane) of Red Level and Jerry Dillard Brooks of McKenzie; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana with Elder Arnold Hendrix officiating. Family visitation will be at 11 a.m. and public viewing will be at 12 p.m. Graveside services will follow at South Butler Cemetery in McKenzie, AL with Johnson Funeral Home directing.
