The Greenville-Butler County Public Library will bring three shows from the nationally renowned Bright Star Touring Theatre to the library this winter and spring.
The shows produced by Bright Star Touring Theatre feature actors and actresses from across the United States, and all performances include set pieces, costumes and props. The company is based out of North Carolina and organizes and performs nearly seventy different shows annually.
According to Library Director Kevin Pearcey, this is the first time Bright Star Touring Theatre has come to the library.
“We are very excited to have Bright Star here at the library,” said Pearcey. “Not only do we anticipate outstanding performances, but this is a great opportunity, especially for students and young people interested in live theatre, to come and see a wonderful group of talented acting professionals perform their craft.”
The first show scheduled is “The Life of Dr. King, Jr.,” which will be held on Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m., and is an excellent production to kick off Black History Month in February, said Pearcey. Audiences will learn more about Civil Rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., tracing his life from his boyhood home in Georgia to becoming an important figure on the international stage.
“We certainly invite teachers and their students to attend what is sure to be an educational and dramatic performance,” said Pearcey of the first show, which is intended for third graders to adult audiences.
Bright Star Touring Theatre will return on Friday, March 14 at 4 p.m. to present “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” the Lewis Carroll literary tale brought magically to life.
The third show will be L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz,” which will be presented on Saturday, March 29 at 10 a.m.
All shows are free and open to the public and will be held in the library’s Community Room. For more information about the performances, please call the library at (382) 3216.
