In an early morning media release, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported that a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for the entire area from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Dangerous cold is likely over the next few days.
A Winter Storm is becoming increasingly likely, impacting most of the area. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are likely across the area. Bitter cold will also persist through the latter part of the week.
“We still expect mostly snow,” said NWS agent Jessica Chase. “However, we cannot rule out more of a mix across the immediate coastal areas, which could impact accumulations.”
Impacts may linger Wednesday into Thursday, depending on how much snow accumulates. Confidence in snow accumulations is high for the southern half of the area and medium for the northern half.
Snowfall accumulation amounts may fluctuate between forecast issuances, as it is very difficult to determine where the axis of heaviest snowfall and where the gradient will be. The cold airmass ahead of the snow will likely allow snow to accumulate quickly, especially on elevated surfaces.
Even half an inch of snow can cause major impacts.
