The Town of Georgiana will soon be the home of a new mural, a project the Downtown Georgiana Group hopes will bring the community together through art.

The group, composed of Nina Bonner of Simply Beautiful Events & More and Danny and Michelle Black of A Color Affair, have been working together to create events for the downtown Georgiana area.

“I was invited to a Main Street meeting, and I was asked to sort of form a group that could work towards a [Downtown Georgiana Group],” Bonner said. “I knew Danny and Michelle were hard workers, and [that] they were good for the community, so I asked them to join in. Ever since then, we have been full speed ahead. Each one of us plays a very vital part in Georgiana. We have our own special, unique areas”

For their next project, the Downtown Georgiana Group is working on a mural to be painted in the downtown area. Currently, Michelle Black is working on the design for the mural. A Color Affair has done murals in the past for local cities such as Greenville, Troy and Pine Apple.

“We really want Georgiana to come alive. If we keep doing projects like this, we’re hoping to spur the local community so that maybe they see something else that they can work on, and that we can inspire others to do the same thing,” Danny Black said.

The Downtown Georgiana Group invites Georgiana residents and those in the surrounding area to join them as they paint the mural starting on Jan. 24 at noon. Participants will be encouraged to paint alongside them, filing in the mural like a coloring book.

Participants that sign up ahead of time through the group’s Facebook page will receive a free t-shirt with their labor.

“We just like to see community, like to see togetherness with every event that we do – every project we do, we sit down and we try to figure out what can bring people together,” Bonner said. “There is so much talent in Georgiana that a lot of times it’s often not seen. Hopefully, with this mural, it can display a lot of the talent that resides here.”

The location of the mural has yet to be announced, however those interested in participating can find more information as it becomes available on the Downtown Georgiana Group Facebook page.
