The McKenzie Tigers continued their march toward a 1A Region 2 championship bid by thrashing the Kinston Bulldogs 58-0 at William Vickery Field the past Friday.

McKenzie got on the scoreboard early and often starting with Quay Jackson’s pass to Jay Jackson. On the Tigers’ next series, the quarterback added a rushing touchdown with four seconds left in the first quarter to put the Tigers up 14-0.

Quay hit Jay again on a touchdown toss to go up 22-0 at the start of the second quarter. Again the quarterback’s pass hit home to give McKenzie a 30-0. Another Jackson-to-Jackson play extended the Tiger lead over Kinston, 38-0 before Ayden Wilsey put the Tigers ahead 46-0, finishing the half with a commanding lead.

Levi Lee grabbed a touchdown reception midway through the third quarter to go up 56-0. To close the game scoring, the Tigers got a late touchdown to win.

Now the Tigers can set their eyes toward the next foe, the Brantley Bulldogs. As the Tigers are in a three-team log jam with Elba and Georgiana, a Tiger win this Friday will keep the Tigers in front and push Brantley out of the playoffs.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
