Mount Moriah Fellowship Church invites community members to join the congregation Sunday, Oct. 13 at 11:00. Situated atop of the county line between Butler County and Wilcox County, the historic church will celebrate three milestones of its rich legacy.
The day begins at 11 a.m. with a church service followed at 12:00 p.m. with dinner on the grounds (bring a side dish or dessert with your name on the serving pieces). At 12:45 p.m., during a special program sanctuary, the Alabama Society Colonial Dames of XVII Century will host a presentation and dedication of a historical plaque.
At 2 p.m., the steering committee will meet in the sanctuary. The Dr. JDG Trust committee will be at 2:30 p.m.
One milestone marked during the celebration is the 196th anniversary of the church’s founding in 1828. The second is the 70th anniversary of the 1954 building of the little brick chapel which replaced the aging wooden “meeting house” constructed in 1847.
The 1828 “meeting place” had housed a congregation that began with a fistful of members and grew to over 400 by 1847 making the structure inadequate for its membership.
The church, located on Mount Moriah Road in Forest Homes, is just over the line in Wilcox County.
