Frances Lowery Garner, a resident of Georgiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 4, at the age of 87.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, Oct. 7, beginning at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Brother Herbert Brown and Brother Danny Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family receives friends for visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until service time.
She was born Mamie Frances Ledbetter on April 15, 1937. She was born and raised in Butler County. Her parents were Hubbard and Eunice Ledbetter. There were four brothers, William, Aaron, Edward and James. Frances had one sister, Sue. Frances was preceded in death by all of these family members and a beloved grandson, Matthew Tanner.
Frances was married at the age of sixteen to James Robert Lowery. They were married for 45 years before he passed away in February of 1999. They reared three children, Larry (spouse Susan), Rosa (spouse Steve Tanner) and David (spouse Kim). From these children, she had grandchildren Jeremy Lowery (spouse April), Justin Lowery, Christy Warren (spouse Shawn), Andrew Lowery (spouse Calen) and Trey Lowery (spouse Hollan). Also, from these children she had five great grandchildren: Samuel, Isaac and Sarah Lowery, Chase Warren, and Eva Blake Lowery.
After being widowed for five years she married Judson Garner. They were married for 15 years before Judson passed in 2019. Frances had three stepchildren: Ashley Langford, Allyson Segars, and Blake Garner. Their grandchildren were Forrest Beverly, Matt and Ann Blake Langford, and Isabella Seagers.
Frances was baptized in her teens and was very active in her church and community. She taught Sunday school, loved to sing in the choir, served in the WMU and loved to cook for those sick or in need in the community. If you were to characterize her legacy, it would be a faithful wife, mother, and devoted friend. She strived to follow the scripture in Micah 6:8. ” What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
In lieu of flowers Frances requested donations be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
