Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

An Editorial Opinion of The Greenville Advocate

On Saturday, football players and coaches from Butler, Lowndes and Crenshaw County high schools waded out into the steamy Alabama heat for a photo shoot at Greenville Chevrolet. The best shot captured there will grace the cover of our annual Playbook magazine, a special feature highlighting programs for each high school, public and private, throughout all three counties.

Anna Findley of Anna Findley Photography volunteered her services again this year, sweating with the rest of us to create an image representing the heart and dedication of student athletes and coaches who pour themselves into contests and represent their school on the field and in the community.

Eleven young men suited up in full gear and offered no complaints, in fact gave nothing but smiles for the chance to represent their team in the publication. It was an impressive image, one that will embody sportsmanship for ages to come.

As we took cooling breaks inside the dealership, Advocate staff talked with the players and their coaches, and remembered their teams’ accomplishments on the gridiron last season. Looking into the faces of each student-athlete, we all knew last season was in the record books. These young men, just by showing up Saturday morning, told us this is a new year, a new team and a blank scorebook ready to be filled.

We are excited to launch the fall sports season and wish the best season yet to our local teams. Go Greenville Tigers, Georgiana Panthers, McKenzie Tigers, Fort Dale Eagles, Calhoun Tigers, Central Lions, Lowndes Rebels, Highland Home Flying Squadron, Luverne Tigers, Brantley Bulldogs and Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars!
