In an amendment to the current Butler County Schools’ dress code, hoodies are no longer permitted inside school buildings.

“Hoodies can not only be considered a safety issue, but students have the tendency to wear the hoods inside, causing interruptions to teachers when staff have to continually ask students to remove them,” said Superintendent Joseph Eiland. The bulkiness of hoodies poses a problem, he said, as they can conceal prohibited items such as cell phones and other electronic devices.

Additionally, Greenville High School (GHS) will implement a new backpack policy.

“At GHS only, clear book bags that will be provided at no cost to students are required,” said Eiland. “Principal Marlow initiated this process to decrease the amount of time needed for every student to pass through our new weapon detectors.”

The changes aim to enhance the safety and efficiency of the school environment.
