The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole to a woman convicted of crimes in Butler County.
Valona A. Johnson, 48, was denied parole from her five -year sentence for a July 2023 conviction for possessing/receiving a controlled substance, a Class D felony.
Johnson is housed in the Montgomery Women’s Facility. The board denied her request and established a reset date in June 2026.
Prior to her current sentence, Johnson served two years and nine months for a Butler County conviction for criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree, and just over one year for a 2004 Butler County conviction for two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
The board heard 24 parole petitions, granting five and denying 19.
The board also held 10 pardon hearings, granting four and denying six.
