With a spirit as enduring as the open road, Jose “Joe” Gomez, at the seasoned age of 65, took the exit ramp to the great beyond on June 13. Born to the world on Jan. 3, 1959, in Edinburg, Texas, Joe steered his life with gusto and a Marine’s resolve, eventually shifting gears to become a truck driver. He drove for Heartland Express for the last sixteen years.

Joe’s journey was fueled by a zest for life and a tank full of gratitude. As a beacon of sobriety, he proudly marked a milestone of thirty years with Alcoholics Anonymous just days before his final departure, a testament to his strength and determination.

He leaves behind a convoy of loved ones: his co-pilot in life, wife Danita Gomez; navigators and sons, Tyler and Victor Gomez; the ever-watchful sister, Gloria Gomez; his young road-trippers, grandsons Elijah and Noah Gomez; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Joe’s parents, Abelardo and Guadalupe Gomez, have previously scouted the route ahead.

Chart a course to Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgiana, Alabama, where Joe’s life was celebrated with a pit stop for visitation on June 18, from 6 – 8 p.m., followed by a final sign off at 11 a.m. on June 19.

In the rearview mirror, Joe leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and the echo of an engine well-revved. Johnson’s Funeral Home stands ready to assist the Gomez family in navigating this time of remembrance.
