The Greenville Advocate names Rosie Till, the Butler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director, as this week’s hero. Born and raised in Greenville, Till has dedicated her career to public service, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and community members alike.

Till began her public service career in 2014 as a dispatcher at the Butler County 911 call center. After three years, she advanced to the role of training supervisor before moving to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office in 2018. After her time in law enforcement, Till took a position in the office of  District Attorney for the second judicial Circuit Court, Charlotte Tesmer.

“Being in Charlotte’s office really taught me a lot, she helped me learn life lessons and work lessons,” Till recalled of her time in the District Attorney’s office.

Following her impactful stint at the District Attorney’s office, Till joined the EMA as the assistant director where her dedication and expertise led to a rapid promotion to Director.

“I got my degree after a year at LBW (Lurleen B. Wallace Community College),” Till said. “I had to complete 200 hours of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) studies to get my state certification and then I did 100 extra hours.”

District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer praised Till’s professional journey and commitment to personal growth. 

“She had been at the 911 center and the sheriff’s department and she had grown so much along her way,” Tesmer said. “I was proud of her for moving up in her career and going back to school. We were blessed to have her and now the county is blessed to have her because she gives her all in everything that she does.”

Butler County Sheriff Danny Bond also spoke highly of Till’s dedication and work ethic.

“I’ve known her for a long time through her work with the police department,” Bond said. “She worked with me for a while before she left for the DA’s office. Every single thing she does, she does to the best of her ability. That’s just her nature. We really hated to see her leave.”

Bond emphasized the importance of the collaboration between the sheriff’s office and the EMA, especially during emergencies. 

“The sheriff’s office and EMA often work together for any type of weather or an accident with spills,” Bond said. “She’s always willing to help without any hesitation. She’s even helped us with grants. We are really glad she’s in this position and we expect to be able to continue to work well together to get the best results possible for the people here. Because she’s all about her job working for everybody in the county.”

Outside of her professional duties, Till finds joy in music. She performs vocals in an acoustic duo called “Two of a Kind” with her nephew Curk Mosley. The pair have entertained audiences at various local events, including the annual crawfish boil, July Jamz, and Cityfest. 

“She’s a very talented musician,” Bond added. “She can definitely carry a tune.”

Till’s journey from dispatcher to EMA Director showcases her dedication to public service and her continuous pursuit of excellence. Her story serves as an inspiration to many in Butler County and beyond, highlighting the impact one individual can have on a community through hard work and commitment.
