Georgiana High School’s Jalen Crenshaw made history on Apr. 6 by shattering a school record in the 100 -meter dash at the Covington County Stadium 4 track meet in Andalusia. Crenshaw set the new record by clocking in at an impressive 11.15 seconds.
The achievement drew praise from Georgiana track coach Jennifer Majors, who has witnessed the student-athlete’s growth firsthand.
“He has been in track since the seventh grade and he’s worked tremendously hard to grow every year,” Majors said. “It’s been a real pleasure to watch him blossom and I look forward to seeing what else he will accomplish.”
Crenshaw’s sprint not only established a new benchmark for Georgiana but also stands as the fastest 100-meter dash time among 1A competitors this season.
“The previous record which was held by Christopher Mixon was an 11.2,” Major’s said. “Jalen managed to beat it by 5/100 of a second.”
Georgiana’s track team is gearing up for more challenges ahead, with plans to return to Andalusia for pre-sectionals on Apr. 19 followed by sectionals on Apr. 26. Crenshaw’s record-breaking performance has set a high bar for the team as they continue their season, aiming for further success in upcoming competitions.
