Greenville Newspapers, Inc. is proud to add its newest staff reporter to its team of devoted journalists. Jalyn Zinn, an Alabama native and White Hall resident, joins the team with a fervor for journalism and an eagerness to report for her community.
Zinn said she is thrilled to join the team and hopes that her familiarity with the community will help her cover the events and issues that affect most people in her area. She will focus primarily on Lowndes County coverage while helping to share the stories of people, places and happenings important to residents of Crenshaw and Butler counties.
“I’m honored to have this opportunity,” Zinn said. “My community matters to me, and I am excited to use my knowledge of the community to cover stories that impact not only me but my family and friends as well.”
Born in Montgomery, Alabama and raised in White Hall, Zinn is a proud member of the Lowndes County community. She is an alumna of Central High School in Hayneville where she served as Salutatorian for the Class of 2021.
Zinn began her journey to higher education at Bethune-Cookman University before later transferring to Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University in Huntsville, where she is currently majoring in communications media.
Zinn spends her time outside of journalism working on her other interests, such as fashion, writing, and her clothing brand.
“Jalyn’s knowledge of ‘the 45’ and familiarity with Lowndes County communities make her a natural fit for local coverage,” said Regional Editor Lanell Downs Smith. “We look forward to having an edge we have lacked for some time – a person in the community to help us highlight all that is beautiful about the area.”
Most of Zinn’s experience comes from her college education where she learned the fundamentals of journalism. She has used this knowledge to advance her skills and gain the experience she needs to dive deeper into the world of journalism.
“Jalyn brings many assets to our team – her love for sports, her passion for journalism, her love for Lowndes County,” Smith said. “She will enable us to more fully provide coverage of the people, places and happenings important to local residents.”
With her new role as a staff reporter, Zinn is delighted to shine a light on the things in her community that matter. She is not only committed to reporting factual information but also has a clear love for storytelling, both things that make her a great addition to The Lowndes Signal team.
