Fort Dale Academy triumphed over Escambia, 35-22, ending with a strong season 8-2 and head coach Eric Folmar said he is very happy to end the season on a high note with a great win against Escambia.
“We faced some adversity early on and our kids did a great job of responding the right way and finishing the job,” Folmar said. “Our coaches did a good job of making adjustments at halftime and the players did a great job of executing.”
According to Folmar, the team’s focus will now be on the Nov. 2 playoff game against Monroe Academy.
“It’s hard to beat a team twice in one season and I know Coach Tubberville will have their guys ready to go,” Folmar said. “We’ve worked really hard over the last three years to have an opportunity to play in November and I’m really excited to see our guys go out there and play.”
Eagles’ senior running back No. 24 Joseph Ealum said an 8-2 season has not happened in a long time for the Eagles.
“It feels great and I couldn’t be happier,” Ealum said. “But the work is not even close to being finished. We know moving forward it’s do or die. The plan is to take it one game at a time and be there in Montgomery the third week of November. As a team we are ecstatic to be headed into the playoffs with such a great regular season.”
Ealum got in the end zone three times to score for the Eagles. Wide receiver No. 5 Clay Gardner scored an extra point. Running back No. 13 Cole Salter scored a touchdown on a four yard run, and quarterback No. 6 Ethan Alford got in the end zone with a 54-yard touchdown run.
The Fort Dale will host their opening first playoff game against Monroe on Nov. 2.
