One of Greenville’s very own, Curk Mosley, won one of the American Idol top four finalist spots at the Alabama National Fair in Montgomery on Oct. 15. The local Two of a Kind lead vocalist was chosen among 48 singers from the entire state to compete, and is one step closer to auditioning in front of American Idol celebrity judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

“I was in disbelief when they called my name first,” Mosley said. “There were some amazing singers in that group, and it was an honor just to be amongst all of them. I’m glad I made it all the way, but to be part of that was just unbelievable and incredible in itself.”

Judges narrowed the pool of 48 down to 12 men and women who then performed with a mentor, a previous American Idol finalist. Mosley performed with Lady K from season 20. The top four were then selected from the 12 on Oct. 15. 

Mosley will have one more live zoom audition on Oct. 25 before possibly meeting and singing in front of the celebrity judges. 

Rosie McClain Till, the other half of the Two of a Kind acoustic duo and Mosley’s aunt, said it’s been so much fun to watch him grow his confidence and talent over the years.

“To say that I’m proud of him for going out on his own and blessing others with his talent is an understatement,” Till said. “His voice is just so powerful and resonating. I still don’t think he realizes how amazingly talented he is. Regardless if he makes it to the finals, the musician he has grown into is truly mesmerizing and I’m thankful to have been a small part of that.”

Mosley learned to play the guitar at age 11, and attributes most of what he knows to Ronness Fails who graciously taught him. Mosley began playing at Church of God in Greenville and now leads the worship service while performing several solo gigs outside of his band performances. 

Mosley said the first song he performed in the competition was his favorite, “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and his final song was “SoulShine” by Warren Haynes. 

Mosley said he was heart-warmed by the overwhelming support he got from the community. 

“The entire entire community has been just wonderful,” Mosley said. “I’ve received Facebook messages to texts and phone calls sending me well wishes and prayers. My wife Elizabeth and my family have been really great by backing me and just being there. It has all been greatly appreciated. I want to thank God first and foremost for this incredible opportunity.”

Mosley originally his performance was intended to gain a little more exposure. 

“Regardless of what happens, I’m going to keep doing it,” Mosley said. “Hopefully I can get a little more exposure this way, as that’s really the main reason I was competing. I’m going to take it as far as I can. It is super exciting and I’m very nervous, but I’m going to give it all to God and pray for the best.”
