The Greenville Tigers and the Georgiana Panthers shut out their opponents Friday night.
Greenville’s game was the team’s first win, breaking a 12 game losing streak, and Head coach Garrick Pimienta’s first win with the team. The Panthers are building a streak of their own with three shut-out victories in a row.
Both head coaches speak on where their focus will lie in the games ahead.
Greenville Tigers
“It was a great team effort,” Pimienta said. “I am very proud of our players and their performance. My hope is that they recognize this is not a special occurrence but an expected outcome. We look to continue to build upon the good things we did and correct the bad things.”
The Tigers triumphed against the Selma High Saints 33-0. Bobby Bedgood No. 1, threw a 65 yard touchdown pass and ran two touchdowns into the end zone. Kaldarus Williams No.10, ran a 49 yard touchdown. Tyler Palmer No. 2, completed the 65 yard pass scoring the second touchdown of the game. BJ Dickerson No. 7, ran in the final two yard touchdown of the night.
Georgiana Panthers
The Georgiana Panthers prevailed against Houston County 8-0 and head coach Berry Bess said he is proud of his defensive players.
“Our defense is taking great pride in defending the scoreboard,” Bess said. “We have a bunch of guys who rotate in and they all want the opportunity to be on the field to make a play. We played great on defense and good on special teams.”
Bess said the team struggled offensively this game and commended the Houston County players and coaches.
“Offensively, we never could get it clicking, we drove the field on the drive we scored on but stalled on the other drives,” Bess said. “Hats off to Houston County defensive players and coaches. They had a great game plan by sending pressure at our offensive line, so I expect teams in the future to do that also. We will definitely put an emphasis on that at practice in the next few weeks.”
Bernard McCaster No. 19, ran in a four yard touchdown in the third quarter, the first and only of the night.
The Tigers will face Wetumpka at Greenville’s home field, and the Panthers will rally against JF Shields in Georgiana on Sept. 29.
