Since this is the first column I’ve ever written, let me share with you a little about how I share God’s word. 

I’m not smarter than any other preacher, or some great theologian. I can only share what I know to be true. That being said, I know we are all less than perfect. 

I know we have all accumulated a debt owed to God, our Creator, a debt that we cannot pay. We live in a fallen creation in which we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

Jesus lived a perfect life so we don’t have to. Jesus also performed many miracles – healing the sick, even raising the dead -, all serving others as a healer. Jesus did several other miracles that showed his authority over nature. 

One of Jesus’s most recalled miracles shows that authority over nature when Jesus walked on water (Matthew 14:22-33).To me, the picture of Jesus walking on water to his disciples waiting in a boat is a view of that perfection .

Jesus became this picture of perfection so that we don’t have to be perfect. God created a standard we must meet to get to heaven; however, it is a standard we can never achieve through any acts that we do.

Therefore Jesus, the son of God, steps and lives the perfect life that we cannot live, and accepts the punishment for the sins that we’ve committed. Meanwhile we, if we believe in Him, receive the reward that Jesus deserved: eternity in heaven instead of eternal torment in hell. 

I mentioned I can only preach what I know to be true. I know Jesus accepted punishment for my sins on the cross at Calvary. I know there’s nothing I can do to change the fact that I deserve the punishment Jesus endured. I know that I, and anyone else who believes in Jesus Christ as their savior, will receive the reward that Jesus deserves of eternal life one day. I know Jesus walked on water so we don’t have to!
