Christmas is upon us, and so is the Greenville Advocate Open House.

The new downtown Greenville Advocate office, located at 603 E. Commerce St., will be the site of the annual event Dec. 15 from 5-7 p.m.

This will be the first open house hosted by Shane Dunaway, who accepted the position of managing editor of Greenville Newspapers, LLC., in August.

“Our open house serves as a prime opportunity to get to know the members of our communities, especially the ones I may not have had an opportunity to meet in my short time here,” Dunaway said. “It’s a good way to network, associate names with faces, and foster positive communication between the newspapers and the people those papers represent.”

During this holiday event, subscriptions to the Advocate will be 40% off the regular price and The Luverne Journal and The Lowndes Signal are both discounted at 30% off.

“We welcome members of our communities in Butler, Lowndes, and Crenshaw counties to come visit our new location and capitalize on our discounted subscriptions,” Dunaway said. “I look forward to talking to our readers and asking if they have ideas, suggestions, or constructive feedback on how we can improve our product and services in each county.”

All staff members, including reporters, advertising department representatives, and Publisher Dennis Palmer, will be attending the event.

The event provides the community a chance to meet the staff, discuss their favorite stories of the year, and see where the bulk of the action happens when it comes to producing each newspaper.

“Our commitment to service in and for our communities is one we do not take lightly,” Palmer said. “Being able to invite members of the communities we serve to our workspace, shake their hands, and thank them for supporting us is important as a way to connect with each other.”

Community members will have an opportunity to win door prizes while they enjoy snacks from the Camellia City Bakery and Deli.

Visitors can register when they come in the door, and every half-hour, a drawing will be held for the winner of a $25 gift card from a local retailer.

The Greenville Advocate has connected with its community members since its establishment in 1865.
