Pioneer Electric Cooperative, Inc. members elected William “Bill” Farrar to the utility’s Board of Trustees at an annual meeting on Oct. 15. The newest member of the nine-person board represents District 2, which includes portions of Pioneer’s service area in Butler, Conecuh, and Monroe counties.

Farrar ran against Joey Peavy for the opening. He filled the board position recently held by Carey Thompson, who served cooperative members for 15 years.

A 47-year Greenville resident, Farrar is a native of Montgomery. He has owned Home Specialty & Design for 30 years and has enjoyed a successful career in the construction industry.

Farrar and his wife, April, attend Antioch West Baptist Church in Greenville. He is also a member of the Alabama Home Builders Association.

“I want to personally thank the Nominating Committee for considering me to be a candidate for the District 2 trustee position,” Farrar said. “Mr. Carey Thompson was a longstanding board trustee, who has helped keep Pioneer headed in the right direction. The challenges are going to be great over the next few years, and I look forward to working with the other trustees in maintaining a positive outlook for the members of the co-op.”

The cooperative is a not-for-profit organization led by boards composed of member-owners of the cooperative. These boards serve an important role in the co-op’s structure and are a voice for the members they represent.

Pioneer’s board meets monthly to review and evaluate the cooperative’s operations, providing accountability found only in a cooperative, member-run utility. Board members serve to ensure the co-op is fiscally responsible and looking out for the best interest of the members served.

Pioneer Electric serves approximately 12,800 members living primarily in Butler, Dallas, Lowndes, and Wilcox counties.
