Summer Bash a grand slam event

This Saturday’s Summer Bash at the Edge Theater in Greenville was a grand slam for Crystal Philpot. She coordinated the event to help raise money and awareness for the Greenville Animal Shelter and the Healing Hearts to Resilience organization run by Karen Sullins.
With the success of this first celebration, Philpot plans on making this a yearly event for the community, bringing in more local businesses and vendors.
Several events were slated for the Saturday shindig. There was a rock wall, face painting, and basketball ring shots, just to name a few.
The cake walk was a delicious success. Cakes, brownies and cupcakes, all donated by local folks, were the hit of the day. Individuals like Meagan Cook and Leanne Lynch donated their baked goods; as well as Camellia Bakery and the Baked Potato Company.
The Greenville Police and Fire Departments had a couple of their vehicles out for the people to inspect.
Pastor John Girdley from the First Baptist Church located at 212 Fort Dale Road came out to share in a good cause and great fun.
Karen Sullins was out under the tent for the Healing Hearts to Resilience organization that she founded 10 years ago.
Not only do they have an office in Luverne, Healing Hearts also has an office in Honoraville as well.
Their clients love the quiet, rural setting. “They really like being in the country,” Sullins said.
They feel secure there, outside the hustle and bustle of a large city environment.
Healing Hearts has contracts with several city and county offices. They offer counseling to first responders; such as police officers, sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel.
The event raised around $230 for the organization, but with the go-ahead for next year, Philpot hopes to raise even more money.
Several bags of dog and cat food were donated, as well as some new toys for the fur babies at the Greenville Animal Shelter.
