Mark your calendar! June 4 at The Edge Theater in Greenville is where folks from all around will be.

Summer Bash at The Edge is headed by Crystal Philpot and located at 601 Paul Stabler Drive. The fun will start at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.

Admission is free, but if you bring in a bag of cat or dog food to help support the Greenville Animal Shelter, you will get a free hot dog from one of the many vendors who will be in attendance.

There will be face painting, a cake walk, a corn-hole event, bouncy houses and carnival games galore.

The National Guard will be out to show off their military pride and the local police and fire departments will have their “touch a truck” event, a fan favorite of all ages.

With the help of the community, businesses and churches, the event hopes to raise not only money, but awareness for two great charities in our area: the Greenville Animal Shelter and Healing Hearts.

Most of you know about the Greenville Animal Shelter and the fine work those folks out there do. They are always grateful for donations of money, bags of cat or dog food, or even your time, if you can spare any of that.

Old towels and shredded paper for bedding and bowls for food and water are always needed; even new toys for the animals come in handy and are most welcomed.

Healing Hearts to Resiliency may be new to some of you. It’s headquartered in Highland Home and founded by Karen Sullins, president.

For the last 10 years, Sullins has devoted her life to advocating for children and families living in crisis. Families living in the grip of hardship, violence and emotional as well as spiritual attack.

Sullins is committed to addressing issues like bullying, internet safety and healthy relationships, just to name a few.

Her organization helps not only children, but entire families. Giving parents and other adults the psychological counseling and stress management tools to be able to face the current issues of life with confidence.

The crisis management and prevention services offered at Healing Hearts are crucial right now.

With the price of gas and food at all-time highs, and now, the baby formula shortage, families are being hit hard and adults sometimes need help withstanding those punches.

Healing Hearts serves those that are marginalized and underserved in our communities.

They also provide consulting services to schools and disaster or crisis aid, offers programs to reduce violence and improve communication skills and provides support for those in high stress occupations, such as first responders.

Their services are also utilized by churches, foster parents and caregiver groups and people who work with special needs children.

The center also provides legal consultation, conflict resolution, crisis intervention and violence prevention programs.
