Republic Services celebrate new building

Republic Services held a ribbon cutting on March 15, 2022 at 10 a.m. to officially open the new Republic Service Transfer Station.
The transfer station is located at the Greenville Landfill located at 343 Landfill Drive in Greenville.
Former Alabama football star Roger Shultz, now the manager for municipal relationship at Republic Services, was on hand for the ceremony. Colin “Big C” MacGuire, Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon, Greenville City Council members, Butler County Commission members, Greenville High School and Fort Dale Academy Cheerleaders, Tracy Salter, executive director of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and many others attended the event and ribbon cutting.
Roger Shultz said he is really excited about the new building. Shultz brought attention to the old transfer station is located across the yard.
“That’s what it was,” he said pointing. “We have been working on this for a while.”
“That’s the outhouse,” McLendon responded, “and this is the penthouse.”
A storm in 2020 hit the facility and caused significant damage. The facility was patched up and continued services according to General Manager AJ Rogers. The original facility was built in 1993.
“We are just shy of 30 years’ partnership with the city of Greenville,” Rogers said. This facility opening up tomorrow morning we will start processing garbage through here. We will provide another 30 years of local garbage disposal services in a partnership between Republic Services and the city of Greenville.”
Rogers expressed his thanks to the mayor and the city of Greenville.
“We are so thrilled to be great partners here in Greenville, Alabama for the next 30 years,” Rogers stated.
