Arthur “Travis” Foster, 93, of Fort Deposit, Alabama entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Mr. Foster was born in the Spring Creek Community of Butler County, Alabama on December 4, 1928. He was the son of the late Ernest Eugene and Alma Perdue Foster. He was proceeded in death by his brothers, Robert Ernest Foster and James Guy Foster, and two sisters, Mary Lee Foster Rogers and Agnes Foster Martin.
After graduating from Greenville High School and working at Carl Golson Motor Company, he was drafted and served in a MASH Unit as a medic during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he married Joyce Eugenia Cates and for more than 68 years they were lovingly devoted to one another.
After working at Norman Trading and Milling Company for 24 years, he was able to achieve his dream of owning a hardware store, Foster Farm and Home Supply. For over 25 years, he served the people of Fort Deposit and surrounding areas.
Mr. Foster was able to find enjoyment in many different areas of his life. He enjoyed farming, “ridin’ and whistlin’,” managing Foster Sod Farm, serving as Cub Scout Master and two terms as a Fort Deposit Town Councilman. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time at the Fort Deposit Senior Center playing dominos with friends.
Mr. Foster was a faithful member of the Fort Deposit Church of Christ, serving many years as an elder. He was the father of four children. He set a daily Christian example for them always putting God first, working hard, appreciating the good in others, and serving his community.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce; his daughter Marinda (Rick)Trull, his son Steve (Nancy) Foster, his daughter Marsha (Jay) Rice, his son Stan (Tina) Foster; his brothers Willie Claude (Betty) Foster and Hubert Ray (Polly) Foster; and his grandchildren Jeremy (Rachel) Trull, Lindsey (Tim) Croley, Travis (Lauren) Trull, Bert Rice, Rebecca Foster, Trav (Brie) Foster, William Foster and Anna Foster along with eight great grandchildren, Tyler and Riley Trull, Oliver and Isla Trull, Emily Kate Foster, Tiffany Faulkner, and Andrew and Cates Croley.
Mr. Foster and his family were blessed by his two caregivers, Nellie Henderson and Betty McCall.
Mr. Foster’s family will welcome visitors at Dunklin Funeral Home Tuesday evening 5 to 7pm for Visitation. A service honoring Mr. Foster will be held at the Fort Deposit Church of Christ Wednesday, February 23 at 10:00am. The Graveside Service will follow immediately after at Little Sandy Ridge Cemetery. Pall bearers and honorary pall bearers will be Mr. Foster’s grandsons and James Cheatham, Ernest Hall and Jessie Means.
