The Greenville Police Department made arrests in two separate shoplifting incidents that occurred over the last couple of months at a Greenville Bypass retail store.

According to Greenville PD, a clerk at the retail store reported an individual came into the shop on May 3, 2021, around 4:15 p.m. and stole several items of clothing valued over $500.

The incident repeated itself on June 16, 2021, when two more individuals entered the store around 2:15 p.m. and stole more than $500 worth of clothing again, grabbing and shoving the clerk out of the way when she tried to stop them from leaving.

The Greenville Police Department’s Investigation Division took over the two cases. They identified the suspects in both robberies shortly following the second theft. Investigators learned the suspects were residents of Evergreen and joined forces with Evergreen law enforcement to locate the suspects.

The two suspects were arrested in Evergreen and placed in the Conecuh County Jail.

Greenville PD retrieved the individuals from the Conecuh County Jail on July 14. The suspects were confronted with the evidence against them during an interview and they confessed to the crimes.

Christion Watson, a 25 year old black male from Castleberry, Ala. was charged with robbery second, and two counts of felony theft of property third.  Terry Golden, a 42-year old black male from Evergreen, Ala. was charged with robbery second and felony theft of property third.

Watson and Golden were upgraded to a robbery charge after using force during the theft against a person present with intent to overcome their physical resistance according to reports.

“The Greenville Police Department will seek the maximum punishment anytime an individual chooses to resort to physical force while committing a crime,” Chief Justin Lovvorn, Greenville PD, said. “I would like to commend the patrol officers who initially responded to the scene and developed very useful information for investigators in reference to this case.  The safety of our citizens is of the utmost importance and I am proud of our officer’s efforts to ensure anyone who would jeopardize that safety is brought to justice in a timely manner.”
