Georgiana resident and master muralist Michelle Black is setting out to create a wonderful mural for Butler County residents.

On May 28, Black announced that she organized a GoFundMe page to purchase the materials necessary to recreate the faded Duckhead mural in Georgiana.

The mural, painted on the former hardware store, is something residents have wanted restored for quite some time.

After speaking with the community and a lot of research, Black located photos of how the mural used to look. According to Black, these photos were crucial for the design process to continue.

“The logo used by Duckhead now isn’t the same logo the mural used when they originally painted it,” Black said. “Besides raising funds for the materials, our next step is contacting  the company to confirm we have permission to use the old logo for the mural.”

Duckhead started in 1865 when brothers George and Joe O’Bryan had the idea to repurpose surplus army tent material to make work pants.

After trademarking their name,  Duckhead went on to produce quality work clothes so popular the US government contracted them to make soldier uniforms.

Over the years, other clothing manufacturers would buy and sell the Duckhead brand while introducing new products to its customers.

These new products included shoes, shirts, shorts, and women’s apparel.

With such a rich history, it’s not hard to see why Georgiana residents would want the Duckhead mural to return.

“There are so many people trying to bring Georgiana back,” Black said. “Anything that I can do that can help achieve that I am more than happy to do.”
