After 40 years of advancing health care in the community, Connie Nicholas, assistant chief executive officer of the Regional Medical Center of Alabama is retiring.
Ms. Nicholas first came to Regional Medical Center in 1975 as a 20-year old licensed practical nurse. By the start of her fifth year at the hospital, she earned the title of a registered nurse. And due to her nursing skills and commitment to patient care, she quickly ascended through the hospital ranks.
Starting on the frontlines as a staff nurse and finishing in hospital administration, Connie served in many leadership positions during her time at the hospital including infection control, interim chief nursing officer, risk management, and quality management. She also held titles of Assistant Administrator, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, and interim CEO on multiple occasions.
“I believe I have had a wonderful career,” Ms. Nicholas said about her time with the hospital.
When asked how she feels about retiring, Ms. Nicholas says she is sad but excited at the same time. “It’s a little bittersweet, having to say goodbye to my coworkers, but I’m also looking forward to the future.”
After retiring Connie plans to spend quality time with her husband, two sons, three granddaughters, and two step-grandsons, while also traveling and enjoying free time.
“I look forward to watching my grandchildren grow and experiencing many of the important milestones in life,” she said.
“I truly wish them all the best,” Ms. Nicolas said regarding her coworkers. “I hope they remember to do what they love and love what they do just as I have all these years.”
Connie Moran’s retirement party was held in the cafeteria of Regional Medical Center Thursday afternoon to honor her many years of service to the hospital.
