Superintendent Joseph Eiland announced the Career Tech Academy received a $65,000 RCND grant during Thursdays board of education meeting.

The grant would help purchase much-needed supplies and equipment for students. Additionally, the grant benefits Superintendent Eiland’s goal for the program.

“My main goal is to connect our students with habitat for humanity,” he said. “This would allow our students to see the conditions that some of our residents live.”

Superintendent Eiland then gave an update on COVID-19 cases in schools throughout the county.

According to recent reports, the county has five new cases of COVID-19.

“Of those five cases, three of them were positive cases and two of them were contact cases so I believe we’re heading in the right direction,”  Superintendent Eiland said.

Federal Programs Director Lisa Adair also reported on the status of relief stimulus packages received by Butler County schools during the meeting.

In other business, the board of education:

Announced that fourteen band students from Greenville Highschool were chosen, and given permission by Superintendent Eiland, to participate in the University of Mobile’s Honors Band

Accepted the low bid of $135 thousand to fix the Greenville Elementary School roof

Approved the extension of any unused COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave under the families First Coronavirus Response Act
