The Brantley High School Bulldog Varsity boys basketball team (10-0) managed to overtake the Highland Home Squadron 67-64 Monday afternoon.

“The boys lost a very close back and forth game to a good Brantley team,” Highland Home coach Jonny Mitchell said. “It could have went either way, but they made a couple of plays at the end to win it. I am proud of how they battled the whole way.”

The battle began right out of the locker room for this Crenshaw County showdown. Kel Faulk scored two baskets and four free throws during the first period for the Squadron. Kenuwyn Dixon and T. Person each added six points for the Bulldogs putting them in the lead.

The second period began with the Bulldogs leading by two. Squadron’s Brice McKenzie hit three three-pointers. Westley Person landed two free throws and T. Kilcrease sank two three-pointers, but still lost the lead heading into the third period, tied 31-31.

Faulk came back strong, making five baskets third period. Dixon added six points for the Bulldogs, but the Squadron were still able to pull ahead going into the fourth period, 51-54.

Keldrick Brown made sure to leave it all out on the floor sinking four baskets and landing his first free throw for the day. Dixon landed two free throws, making nine total for the game, adding four points to Brantley’s score.

Faulk dominated the scoring for Highland Home throughout the game with 26 total points.

Brantley’s Dixon led his team with 18 points. Person and Brown contributed with 16 points each.

At present, Brantley is ranked number one in Class 1A, Area 3 play, and played McKenzie on Jan. 19 in area action.
