Local county roads are getting cleaned up thanks to a partnership with the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department and the county commission.
Sheriff Terry Mears said he has been offering inmate-labor for roadside cleanup to county commissioners.
Mears said that inmates have cleaned up in Districts 1, 2 and 4.
Mears said inmates most recently worked on S. Glenwood Road.
“We want to use our resources to help make sure that our communities are free of trash,” he said. “I wanted to partner with the commissioners to utilize our inmates.
“Commissioners Bo Mount, Raymond McGough and Stallion Sasser have so far utilized this,” he said. “We will continue to do this as much as possuble.”
Mears said they have worked S. Glenwood Road in District 4, Saville Road in District 1 and Mt. Ida Road in District 2.
“These are all county roads that are heavily traveled,” Mears said.
Mears said that only inmates who have been charged with misdemeanors are eligble to participate in the cleanup.
“These are inmates that have traffic violations or failures to appear,” he siad. “This a great way to show the unity between the county commission and the sheriff’s department. We all want what’s best for our county.”
