Greenville High School head basketball coach Marcus Mickles is excited for the upcoming basketball season.
The coach’s one main goal for the 2020-2021 season, “make a run at a championship and do something that has never been done before.”
Mickels said he feels really good about this upcoming season with a few key players like Dawson Sarblah, Justice Palmer, Erik Rudolph Jr., and Tyron Ingram returning.
The 6-foot-6-inch Sarblah returning varsity player for the last four years is one of the team’s “biggest helps.”
Mickels mentioned that the area is going to be “very competitive” with teams like Andalusia added in the area, moving up to 4A to 5A.
Charles Henderson and GHS have both exchanged area championships throughout the years, but Mickles looks forward to getting the upper hand this year.
Last season the team ended with a 22-8 overall record and 6-0 Region record; the team made it to the playoffs in Birmingham.
The Tigers begin play on Nov. 20 at Wilcox Central, and then head to Mountain Brook for the Spartan Turkey Jam.
