Sunday alcohol sales will be a thing in Greenville come Dec. 1.
At Monday night’s city council approved an ordinance to include Sunday alcohol sales.
Mayor Dexter McLendon said the council had been asked by several merchants to pass the ordinance.
He said that there is someone looking at the Ruby Tuesday property and this would help that business.
“We’ve been talking about it for two or three years,” he said.
The new ordinance allows for on-premise consumption only, sale and consumption shall be legal 24 hours per days Monday through Saturday and on Sunday before 2 a.m., and after 11 a.m.
Additionally, sales for off-premises consumption in a carton or container in which alcoholic beverages are originally packed for the market by the manufacturer or importer, shall be legal seven days per week, 24 hours per day.
The mayor and all council members except council member Tommy Ryan voted in favor of the ordinance.
