Enrollment numbers for Crenshaw County Schools were essentially flat this year.

Each year, school systems are required to submit enrollment numbers that record average daily membership (ADM) or daily enrollment.

Those numbers, which are gathered based on attendance the first 20 days after Labor Day, are used to determine the level of funding for a system, which includes teacher salaries for the following budget year.

Overall, Crenshaw County Schools was down 18-19 students total from last year, with a system enrollment of 2,149 students.

Brantley School saw zero change in the student population and had an enrollment of 525 students.

Highland Home School was down nine students to 808 students.

Luverne School was also down nine students to 816 students.

Crenshaw County Schools Superintendent Dodd Hawthorne said the decline in students is not enough to warrant any loss of teaching units for the next budget year.

Comparatively, Crenshaw County Schools had:

• 2,214 students in 2014;

• 2,175 students in 2015;

• 2,220 students in 2016;

• 2,196 students in 2017;

• 2,176 students in 2018;

• 2,168 students in 2019
