The Georgiana Panthers won a close game against the Red Level Tigers Friday night.
Georgiana’s Bryant Mitchell scored the game’s first touchdown.
The two-point conversion was good, giving the Panthers an eight point lead.
A fumble recovered by the Panthers positioned Georgiana for another touchdown.
Nehemiah Altidor carried to the Tiger 15-yard line and Mitchell carried to the 1-yard line, but a false start pushed the Panthers back by 5 yards.
That didn’t discourage the offense from scoring the game’s second touchdown.
Azenda Pennington carried the two point conversion, bringing the score to 16-0 before the start of the second quarter.
The Red Level Tigers scored their first touchdown in the second quarter of the game, but their two point conversion was no good.
The Panthers received the ball at their own 27-yard line, but were pushed all the way back to Red Level’s endzone.
They were forced to punt the ball.
Georgiana’s defense held their own against the Tigers after the Tigers were only 7 yards away from a touchdown and were tackled during the fourth down.
After the half, Panther Ty Mobley sustained an injury and was out for the rest of the game.
The final play at the end of the third was untimed because of a penalty against the Panther offense.
A series of punt returns throughout the final quarter didn’t deter the Panthers from keeping their lead.
An interception by Mitchell kept the Panthers ahead.
The final score was 16-12.
The Panthers will host the Brantley Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.
The game was moved from Friday because of bad weather.
