Crenshaw County will soon embark on a massive paving project.
The county commission gave the nod to County Engineer Benji Sanders’ Crenshaw County Safer-off-System Road Improvement Plan.
Sanders’ plan will utilize existing county funds and future county revenues to accelerate the delivery of road improvements on existing county maintained paved roads.
The county will spend $3.325 million in road improvements over 30 miles of county-maintained roads by the end of next year.
Sanders said the plan will be divided into two phases.
Phase I:
• Will utilize about $825,000 in existing county fund balances to resurface approximately seven miles of county roads utilizing current in-place annual public works bids;
Phase II:
• Will utilize future county revenues that have been freed up by the Rebuild Alabama Act to service a 10-year loan of $2.5 million. These funs will be used to resurface some 23 miles of county roads by the end of 2021.
Roads included in Phase I:
• Shady Grove Road, from County Road 59 north of Petrey to Pike County Line, $419,750;
• Cook Road, from County Road 11 to Posey Road, $124,200;
• Posey Road, from Cook Road to County Road 11, $277,150;
Phase II roads:
• Bodiford Pool Road, from Farrior Road to County Road 59 at Petrey, $510, 600;
• McGough Road, from County Road 11 to end of pavement, $182,850;
• Cook Road, from Posey Road to County Road 68, $143,750;
• N. Gravel Hill Road, from McGough Road to County Road 50, $189,750;
• Daniel Branch Road; from County Road 68 to County Road 17, $590,000;
• Siloam Church Road, from Alabama Hwy. 10 at Moody’s Store to County Road 77, $277,140;
• Blackmon Road, from U.S. Hwy. 29 to Alabama Hwy. 106, $481,850;
• Danielville Road, from County Road 56 to County Road 11, $125,550;
• New Bethel Church Road, from U.S. Hwy. 331 to Lapine Hwy., $93,150
The roads in this project are not eligible for federal aid, Sanders said.
The three local banks – First Citizens, Brantley Bank and First National Bank of Dozier – joined together to give the amount needed.
