The City of Georgiana elected its new mayor, Franklin Betterton, in the municipal election Aug. 25.

“I’m feeling really good,” Betterton said. “I just want to thank God because this has been hard. I also want to thank all of my family, all of my friends and all of the people of Georgiana.”

Betterton defeated Georgiana Mayor Jerome Antone 322-165.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate Franklin Betterton on his victory and a job well done,” Antone said. “I would like to thank the City of Georgiana for giving me a great eight years. I’ve enjoyed myself and working for the citizens and youth of Georgiana.”

District Council winners include District 1 Councilmember Robbin McCombs and District 5 Councilmember Johnny Mack Colvin.

District 3 candidates Malvin Brewer and Carnell Littles tied and will face a runoff election Oct. 6.
