Family and friends lined up to celebrate 97 years of life in a drive-thru birthday party for Luverne native Verbie Lee Holston.
Holston grew up in Crenshaw County and has been living in Luverne all of her life. As an educator for 32 years before retiring, Holston had taught at several Crenshaw County schools including Honoraville, Dozier and Highland Home.
The birthday party was a surprise to Holston, who said she is grateful to celebrate another year, but was also missing her family and friends.
“So many people have called me, but haven’t come to see me,” Holston said before her family surprised her with the drive thru.
Holston’s face lit up in awe as first responders led the car line with their lights flashing. She was greeted by loved ones who treated her to balloons, gifts and cards, as well as sweet messages and posters.
After the last car, Holston’s family gathered in her Luverne home of 25 years to celebrate her life and the value that she has brought to so many others.
