Crenshaw County Deputies arrested 11 people over the weekend on various drug charges.

On Aug. 14, Sheriff Terry Mears said deputies conducted driver’s license and vehicle safety checkpoints in the Glenwood community and in the Helicon community.

“Between both checkpoints, six arrests, drug/narcotics and drug paraphernalia were seized,” Mears said.

According to Mears, the Glenwood checkpoint yielded three arrests, including Jasmin Pease of Brantley, Shelby Faulk of Brantley and Reginald Daniels of Dozier. Each was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana second degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

During the Helicon checkpoint, Angel Mount of Honoraville, Emily Mount of Honoraville and Christopher Burgans of Lapine were arrested.

Mears said that Angel and Emily Mount were arrested on outstanding misdemeanor warrants and Burgans was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. Numerous traffic citations were also issued at both checkpoints.

On Aug. 15, Mears said deputies were patrolling in Helicon near Helicon Missionary Baptist Church when they observed a vehicle parked behind the church in the parking lot.

“Deputies pulled in to investigate and observed the vehicle occupied by Justin Jones of Montgomery, Cherrinee Jones of Millbrook and Reginald Burton Montgomery,” the sheriff said. “Deputies detected the odor of marijuana and upon a search of the vehicle, it led to the discovery of marijuana and a couple of firearms.”

Justin Jones was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana second degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Cherrinne Jones was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana second degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Reginald Burton was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and carrying a pistol without a permit.

On Aug. 16, deputies initiated a traffic stop in the Helicon community, which led to the arrest of Rakim Murry of Highland Home, Mears said.

“Murry was arrested for outstanding misdemeanor warrants and was transported to the Crenshaw County Detention Facility,” Mears said. “After entering the detention facility, Murry was dressed out and found to be in possession of crack rocks that he had hidden on his person.”

Mears said Murry was charged with promoting prison contraband second degree.

Additionally, deputies stopped Malcolm Burnett on U.S. Hwy. 331 just north of 97 in LaPine.

Mears said upon the traffic stop, officers smelled the odor of marijuana.

A search yielded some 30 grams of marijuana and more than $2,000 in U.S. currency.

He was charged with possession of marijuana first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
