After announcing Saturday afternoon that school would close for two and a half weeks following classes on Wednesday, March 18, Fort Dale Academy officials announced just before 11 a.m. today, Monday, March 16, that the private school’s doors will close until April 6, when the bells ring for the final time today.
“We received additional information last night that indicates a need for us to advance our response to the COVID-19 situation at our school,” FDA Headmaster Kurt Page said. “Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, FDA will be closed. We will remain closed through Sunday, April 5. We will keep students and families informed of assignments and other information through our website and FACTS Management (RenWeb). The teachers email addresses are on our school website. Please feel free to contact them or me if needed. ”
The closure comes amid the COVID-19 pandemic following the state’s first confirmed case last Friday morning in Montgomery County. As of 11 a.m. Monday, the state had 22 confirmed cases. According to health officials, practicing social distancing the next couple of weeks will help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
“It is important that we do our part as an organization during this extremely challenging time for our city, state and nation,” Page concluded. “My prayer is that these challenges will bring out the best in us, that we will be found working together, communicating with respect, helping each other figure it out, and encouraging and serving each other with uncommon grace and kindness. Take the time to tend to each other.”
