Lois Robinson will once again serve as president of the Butler County Board of Education, while Linda Hamilton will remain vice president after the board voted last Thursday night to retain them in their roles.

Traditionally, the offices rotate, but board members felt that with the transition to a new superintendent, the experience in leadership was warranted in the break in protocol.

Before entertaining motions for selection of a new president, Robinson thanked the Board and the people of Butler County for the opportunity to serve.

“I’ve appreciated being able to serve in this capacity,” she said. “I will continue to serve, however, it is my desire to pass the torch on.”

Board member Brandon Sellers then spoke up about Robinson’s service and the need to keep her on.

“Lawyers like consistency,” Sellers said. “Since we’ve been talking about consistency in the system and the progress we’ve made and with Mr. Eiland as the new superintendent, I would make a motion that based upon that consistency and the things we’ve got going on, that you remain president. I would also say that I would like for Ms. Hamilton to remain vice president because y’all have done such an outstanding job. I think we should consider this path for at least the next year.”

Board members complimented Robinson on the job she had done and said they had consulted with the board attorney who had said it was OK to reappoint her and Hamilton. Hamilton made the motion to elect Robinson president for the coming year and Sellers seconded it. She was approved, and likewise, when a motion to elect Hamilton as vice president was made by Sellers and seconded by Michael Nimmer, it was approved.
